      Humid summer

      Dear Montpelier,

Feel like you're going to pop?  That's the hot humidity.  Not sleeping great?  Pain acting up more than usual?  Rashes appearing?  Stomach and digestion feeling off?  All of these are normal responses to the way in which damp heat affects the body.  It is normal to feel anxious and wired when a storm is brewing.

Today in the clinic, everyone's pulses have been slippery (as a result of damp/humidity) and rapid (due to heat.)   Atmospheric pressure changes affect the water that makes up our bodies, too!  When it's hot and humid out, avoid fried foods, alcohol and dairy.  Steamed foods are easiest on digestion.  If you can handle gluten, consider barley, as it has the effect of drying up damp.  Orange peel brewed up in a tea can be helpful for the belly.  Brew it up with mint and lemon, let it cool down and have it chilled.

Get in the rivers and lakes or just take a cool shower or bath.  Stay hydrated, and if this is proving to be tricky, add salt, maple syrup or honey, and lemon to your water to help with electrolytes.  Coconut water is a great one too.  And of course, come on in and get a treatment!  It's always good to see you :)

Grateful for the sunshine and lilacs,

      Lara
