I recently treated someone for sorrow and irritability. We often think that acupuncture is a purely physical modality. If I have no aches or pains, what would I use acupuncture for? For those of us who are dedicated to working through our old childhood wounds, acupuncture can be a wonderful thing to lean into. Because it's main mode of action is to reduce inflammation, this inherently assists with anxiety, mood, & states of consciousness. Stuck emotions are more likely to flow, heart rates regulate, nerves are soothed, hormones are regulated, and dopamine increases. Acupuncture gets us out of "fight or flight" and into "rest & digest." This shift in and of itself can be *extremely* powerful and healing.
Acupuncture for trauma and emotional healing is best paired with a trained psychotherapist. Taking the time to really work with a therapist on specific traumas is beneficial for everyone. What is amazing about acupuncture is that it is the medicine of the nervous system. Beyond any stories or narratives is the reality of what is stored in our bodies. While therapy is extremely helpful, there are so many unconscious patterns that reside in our mental and emotional "blind spots." Acupuncture, herbs, guasha, and cupping can go right to what is stored in the body and move it. As old emotions and blocks move, endorphins and dopamine are simultaneously released.
For many patients, retelling the difficult story at the root of their emotional condition can be retraumatizing. Acupuncture can help you without you having top relive the past. We are here to help you feel better in the present so that you can build a better future.
No matter where you are on your healing journey, this is a medicine that can offer great support and ease on your path. DM me to schedule a session.
